FourthLine use privacy expertise to source Data Protection Advisor for retailer over Christmas

The client is a British multinational retailer, which owns several high street brands and has a huge international presence online. Having worked with the client previously, the Data Protection Officer contacted FourthLine for help with their latest resourcing requirement.

The problem

The client was looking to grow their data compliance team up to ten employees by adding a Data Protection Advisor to sit below the DPO and Data Protection Manager. Due to the complex nature of the client’s organisational structure, advisors are required to work with the CEOs of the different brands as each one has different privacy requirements and policies. Clients in the retail sector looking for privacy experts can sometimes struggle to attract the calibre of candidate they’re looking for due to market rates, and in this instance the client had struggled to identify someone working with other agencies.

The solution

With the largest data privacy recruitment team in the UK, FourthLine has consultants specialising in different sectors who have a thorough understanding of their sector’s privacy requirements and the type of candidate who is best suited to this. In this instance the challenge was to identify candidates who were educated to the right level of privacy law and who had exposure to the privacy requirements of the retail sector, such as cookie policies and digital marketing, whilst also falling into the pay grade of the role.

We began the search looking for candidates with legal and humanitarian degrees or a masters in digital or privacy, looking specifically at published papers and dissertations. A shortlist of five candidates were put forward to the client, and three chosen to interview. This process coincided with the Christmas holidays, and as the clients office remain open over Christmas the consultant took time out from their break to present candidates to the client and prepare the candidates for their interviews, which were then able to take place late December with an offer made to the successful candidate at the start of January.
