Now the hype is over...what's the story post-GDPR?

As we are now several months into a new era of privacy following the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation in May, what position are companies in to support rights and breaches and how are privacy cultures being implemented?

To find answers to these questions, FourthLine hosted a Breakfast Briefing on 11th September 2018 to discuss steps to embed privacy culture in a post GDPR world. Joined by guest speaker Helen Woolett, Group Compliance Counsel & Data Protection Officer at The Body Shop, the morning identified different standpoints on how we are moving forward into a new digital age.

Topics discussed on the day included:

  • Are we ready as organisations to support rights and breaches? What do we see the regulators doing? What is being seen in the public domain? What is the future for data protection and GDPR training?
  • Have we identified the right talent for a long-term privacy strategy? Are we exploring all the options for building out our privacy function including graduates, interns, analysts and managers? How can we influence the board in to signing off on additional privacy resources?

In our interview below, Helen discusses where organisations are up to with the implementation of their GDPR programs and what the next few years may hold.

With the UK’s largest specialist information risk recruitment team, FourthLine are in a unique position to comment on data protection resourcing market activity, and presented some of our findings at the event. Below is some of the types of moves we’ve seen in the market during 2017-2018:

1. Internal promotion and side stepping from legal, risk & compliance

2. Contract roles leading to permanent positions:

3. Plenty of movement and career progression into new firms
