International bank requires broad range of CASS and risk assurance experience

FourthLine were contacted by the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Controls at an international bank. We had worked with this client in the past, placing a contractor within the business the previous year.

The problem

The client was looking to build out their assurance capabilities, and so needed somebody to fill their newly created role of First Line Assurance Manager. This would be a senior position, reporting directly into the Chief Operating Officer and required a specific mix of risk assurance and CASS experience, along with experience working with the buy-side.

The client had originally advertised the role with other agencies but had struggled to find candidates with the right mix of experience as many were too specialist. Furthermore, the requirements of the role developed over time to become more hybrid in line with the requirements of SM&CR. Having updated the scope of the role, the client chose to advertise a second time exclusively with FourthLine.

The solution

Having given the client some advice around salary benchmarking, we began by putting together a shortlist of potential candidates made up of a combination of experts from within our network of known candidates and newly headhunted candidates. The process was relatively smooth, with two candidates interviewed and going through a 2-stage interview process before the position was offered to an immediately available candidate.

Given the requirements of SM&CR we expect to see a shift from specialist CASS roles to more broad positions and as a result, we anticipate CASS experts will be looking to broaden their knowledge and risk regulatory experience.
