FinTech start-up makes a Compliance hire

A London based FinTech start-up was hiring a compliance leader; FourthLine’s ‘Critical Talent’ service was the product of choice.

 

The Challenge

The client was preparing to launch their app-based lending product and wanted to ensure that their regulatory agenda was addressed from the start.  This was particularly important in terms of conduct and ‘treating customers fairly”.

They required a senior hire, with both technical and commercial capabilities and who would approach compliance as an enabler and not a roadblock.

As a start-up they needed someone who would fit in with the company culture and contribute to a more gender diverse leadership team.

Part of our challenge was working with the company as they were launching their product, and our approach had to be sensitive to suit their launch pressures.  It was also important to apply the correct approach to the challenge, and the client chose our retained search service. This allowed us to dedicate the time needed in order to identify and interview as many candidates as possible to identify the right person.

 

The Solution

We met with the client to discuss their hiring need and get a feel for the company and culture.

We then got to work by mapping out the entire market and identifying active and passive candidates that would be a good fit. After four weeks of research, telephone and video interviews we provided the client with a long-list and shortlist of prospective candidates.

Building personal relationships with the candidates proved to be essential in making sure their ambitions and ethics were in-line with the client.   We maintained ongoing dialogue with the client throughout the process, scheduling regular feedback loops to ensure we were on the right track.

 

The Result

The process was successful.  We delivered against all milestones and the client made a successful hire from the shortlist.  All parties praised FourthLine’s approach and the client commented positively on the depth of quality in the shortlist and our level of market knowledge.
